Forget About Tomorrow

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34).

As a child, I can remember watching the television show “One Day at a Time.” Throughout the years, I’ve grown to appreciate what the title implies. Too often we stress ourselves by preoccupying our minds with tomorrow’s demands. Often times we worry ourselves because we spend so much time thinking about what’s up the road. We drain ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally because we burden ourselves with unnecessary issues. For the most part, we’re not tired because of the load we had to carry during the day. We grow weary because we also concentrate on what’s ahead.

As Jesus did with His disciples, I want to encourage you to take one day at a time. You may have a lot of things to address, but you only need to focus on today’s concerns. Stop thinking about everything you have to do this week so you can concentrate on what you need to accomplish today.

Take joy in knowing that God will address your needs so you won’t worry about how things will get done. The bills will get paid; the degree will be obtained; the project will get completed; and the promotion will come to pass. You just focus on what has to be done today and know that God will supply what you need tomorrow.

Take it day by day so you can lighten your load. Take it one day at a time so you won’t wear yourself out. You have enough on your plate as it is, so don’t overwhelm yourself with the affairs of tomorrow.
